I always feel a sadness as summer transitions into fall.
When I was in my 20s, I used the throw a Halloween party every year to give myself something to look forward to.
Now, I just try and enjoy the warm weather until it starts to get cooler. And I think I’m embracing each season more than ever before.
This summer hasn’t felt as “summery” as I would have liked—I’m sure you feel similarly.
I hope you got to enjoy some time safely outside this weekend. And if you’re on the West Coast, I’m sending you lots of love.
Here are three things that gave me a little mood boost lately—I hope they’ll do the same for you!
1. Neon bicycle shorts
I love these and these from sustainable brand Girlfriend Collective (the fabric is made from plastic bottles—I just make sure to wash them in a Guppy Bag, which helps to keep stray fibers from escaping into our water supply and oceans). Just pulling these bright shorts on before a morning workout or a coffee walk with Tom around our neighborhood gives me a little mood boost.
2. An earth-friendly stain remover
I’m always looking for home and beauty products that are created with less packaging—especially plastic packaging. This was my first time trying a natural stain remover for my clothing and there are so many things to love about this bar. It’s free of plastic packaging and created by WOC-founded, Brooklyn-based eco-friendly laundromat Celsious. (P.S. It’s been 👌🏼 with removing stains.)
3. A beautiful, calming documentary
I watched My Octopus Teacher this weekend on Netflix. The name makes it sound like a quirky kids’ cartoon. It’s actually a totally immersive documentary about a free diver who visits the same octopus near his home in South Africa every day for nearly a year. It turns out octopuses are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet—up there with cats, dogs and some primates. In a time where traveling and exploring new places is especially hard, I found this beautiful film to be so breathtaking and moving.
Wishing you a wonderful, peaceful week ahead. xoxo, H
