It was 70 degrees yesterday in New York City. In February. While it felt amazing to wear only one layer (!) and see the city come alive as everyone spent as much time outside as possible, it also felt a little strange. (How are we still denying climate change?!) Anyway, here I am, sharing a winter coat story when it's starting to get warmer on the East Coast and all we can think about is SPRING! 😜
Yet we still have 26 more days to go and probably quite a few more blustery cold days... so those winter blues might creep back in. (Ugh.) When I need a lift—and I want to feel confident and glam, especially when I’m feeling very much the opposite—I wear this coat.
Granted wearing a "hello, I'm here" coat won't improve life drastically, but it brightens my mood enough so I can coast through the day a little easier. Things get to me less, 'cause I've got that Friday feeling on a Thursday.
You may have a similar piece in your closet without realizing it. It doesn’t have to be a coat or light-colored (I just like the idea of breaking up all the dark colors I—and most of NYC—gravitate toward in the winter), it just has to make you feel good when you wear it. Fabulous, even. Maybe it’s glittery boots (I love these very-walkable block-heel ankle boots above) or a sweatshirt with a clever phrase. Whatever it is, I hope you can rock it more than usual these next few weeks until spring makes her entrance!
This coat is a few years old, from Lord & Taylor (similar here, here and here). The sweater is Sincerely Jules (similar). The jeans are from Madewell (you've seen me wear them a million times!) and the boots are Kenneth Cole (similar here and here).
I’m headed to a friend’s bachelorette party in Atlantic City this weekend. (Eek!) And after that (if I have the energy!), I want to catch up on a few more Oscar-nominated films. What are you up to? Wishing you the best weekend!
Xoxo, Heather
