I know, I know. Right now, everyone is all fall-hungry: Crunchy leaves! Crisp air! Jacket weather! Boots! Pumpkin spice lattes! Pumpkin beer! Halloween!
Ok, so fall is pretty great. But I, for one, have not forgotten that summer isn’t over yet! Hello, we still have five more days! (The first official day of fall is Wednesday, September 23.)
I never want to hurry the end of summer. The last few lingering days can be glorious: it’s less humid and hot, and the sun is still setting late enough to get some evening hours outside before dark. So rush into fall? Not me! (I love this New York Times article about how we end summer so early now.)
That being said, I do love dressing for fall. But transitioning from wearing summer clothing to fall clothing when it’s not quite sweater weather yet isn’t easy. Try a look like this on those in-between-season days.
What makes this outfit more “fall,” despite the sandals and shades, is the fisherman’s/mesh-style sweater. It’s all hole-y, so it’s perfect for when the temp drops a bit and you’re headed outside for the day, not sure what to wear. Poking out from under my sweater is a denim bustier-style top. Having a tank or crop top underneath your sweater in a sexy cut and/or an unexpected fabric—in this case, denim—adds a cool twist to your look. (Bonus: When you head out to meet up with your #squad that night, all you have to do is take off your sweater and add heels.)
These accessories are some of my favorite for summer: a palm-tree print tote; fun, happy shades; a bright blue scarf; and simple silver jewelry. (See below for credit details.)
Jeans: Madewell. Earrings: Robert Lee Morris at Macy’s (I love the two-tone style, and they’re only $30!). Palm tree clutch: Puravida. Leather sandals: Shelly’s London (they’re on sale for $35! MUCH less than I originally paid for them).
Make it your own:
Textured, mesh sweaters (the more holes, the better): sexy shoulder detail; super lightweight; white and long; sheer and asymmetrical; muscle tank; deep V.
Sexy little tanks: denim bustier; cropped with a scalloped hem; cami with sexy details; criss-cross tie back; crochet crop top; lacy black halter.
I hope you’re able to soak up some of these last five days of summer! And then... fall, here we come!
Xoxo, H
